inner city life

stuff

I have an unexpected change of plans for today, am meant to be house cleaning, and am looking around for the first time in ages - am stunned by the fact I have manged to cover every surface with stuff!

This is my favourite piece of stuff, which sits atop of the fridge, it sums up so much to me about the state of domestic bliss, feminist ideas and me fast approaching 40.

experiments so far

Finally a finished piece! This very lose cup/bowl was an experiement in handbuilding with paperclay.

This bowl has not had its final glaze firing, but I love its calmness.

This has got me thinking, I love the idea of sewing into fired, glazed clay............I wonder.

Weaverama

This is the work of Lily Fraser, my sister. She has used here newspaper, acrylic paint and cardboard. I love it - very cool and clever.

These photos are of the Victorian Tapestry Workshop.

What a week! Lots of stuff happening, lots of changes - again!

On Tuesday night I took the kids and my niece to the opening of an exhibition at the Victorian Tapestry Workshop. This was a wonderful night of family, art and fun. My amazing talented sister is part of this group show. She works full time at the Workshop and manages to combine this with parenting and having a very productive studio at home! OMG.

WEAVERAMA: An exhibition of work from weavers at the Victorian Tapestry Workshop - 6 October- 4 November.

Victorian Tapestry Workshop
262-266 Park Street
South Melbourne, Victoria, 3205 Australia

Go and check it out. The workshop it's self is worth the vist. Its full of colour and texture, things I love.

lenny's drawing, i love it!

creative reflections

I just counted at least 10 unfinished art/craft projects scattered around the house, sitting accumulating dust and guilt. Some are years old. I have a very patience husband who only complains if he bangs into one with his foot.

The kids are used to it, I once took 2 years to make a five year old her special chosen outfit. I did managed to squash her into it, the pants just became 3/4 leggings, the top a crop top. More guilt! I have a problem completing work at home. There is always something else to do, eat, have another coffee, go for a walk, read, bake, a glass of wine, eat. The list goes on....

So work changed and I have taken a leap of faith and have set up in a shared studio in North Melbourne. I love working with clay, porcelain in particular. Its so fluid, moving easily, I love the process from start to finish. Away from home I am absorbed in a creative process with no interruptions, we all need alittle creative place of our own.

fresh start

I have had a long break from making art for me! Its been years of working with other mediums making creative things for work, the children everyone but me. I am rediscovering, experimenting and having fun. As yet I have nothing finished, as working with clay is a long process. but here are some photos of my 'works in progress'. Very grey at the moment, but function and form first, then colour last. Would love any feedback...............
